Hello Fellow WOYWWers and Bloggers
Goodness me, that week whizzed by quickly, cannot believe it or that we are so far though the Olympics already - I am loving every minute of it. I don't even mind that we are bit light on medals, I just love to see those athletes in peak form doing what they do best, they are so fabulous.........
This is the time of the week when we go and have a look around the world at desks of fellow crafters and if you want to find out more and/or join in then have a look at our WOYWW leader Julia who you can find at
http://stamping-ground.blogspot.co.uk/ for more information.
I have done very little crafting since last week (watching the Olympics - yay!) so my desk is clean and tidy. But, some of you may remember that I had a brainwave last week and thought it might be a good idea to turn my little butterfly card (from last week's post) into a canvas to use as a colour guide for my Distress Inks and here it is:-
The canvas size is 30cm x 40cm or approx 12" x 15". Each butterfly was stamped coloured and cut out individually so it took me a little while (whilst watching the Olympics). I thought that would be plenty big enough, but oh no, there was no room left to put my little labels on, the labels that I painstakingly wrote out and cut up. So, I did a colour key using a spreadsheet and this is clipped on at the back.
The canvas is laid out in the colour families that Tim uses on his colour chart that you can download from his website. It has his original colours on, not sure if he has produced one since with the special edition inks.
There are quite a few blank spaces, these are six of the normal ink colours that I do not have yet and also a couple of the special edition sets from last year. I marked these in red on my spreadsheet so that I know exactly which ones I need to buy (eventually). Once I get those there will be less spaces but probably no room for any more TH brings out. The picture looks better if you double click on it to make it bigger.
Quite a few of you said you would love to do the same so at least you can see how it might look. I think it was worth the time and effort and it looks lovely up on the wall too.
Finally, I have received two copies of the magazine - Cardmaking and Papercraft (September issue), don't quite know why, but they do not want it back. If anyone would like it please let me know and if there are a few of you I will do a draw on Friday evening this week at 8:00 pm GMT and I will contact the winner. If you want it but comment after that time - Sorry!
I will try to visit as many of you as possible this week, in between my favourite events. If you do visit I hope you will leave me a comment, tell me what you think of my colour chart, or just say hello. I always try to return the compliment. In the meantime enjoy the rest of your week and if you are watching the Olympics, hope you enjoy them too. Crafty hugs, Anne x

That looks really gorgeous Anne, such a lot of work has gone into this, it really was a good idea of yours. I would love to be put in your draw for Cardmaking and Papercraft... I don't get my inky paws on many magazines.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous idea. You have some wall art as well as a good system to track what you have. To see the colour in action is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool idea. So pretty too!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever idea! Love those butterflies and it will be such a helpful reference tool for you. Bet you could hang it in the Tate Modern!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely being able to put the tv on in the background and see such effort, enthusiasm and positivity (makes a change from the news and soaps, which I try to avoid these days!) Well done to everyone who is taking part as you have to be at the top of your game just to get there.
Have a great day my crafty friend. Hugs, Buttons x
Wow, I love that idea but you must love cutting out to do this - great tv activity though - I'm glued to the Olympics too!!
ReplyDeleteJuliaxx
Me again! I was trying to work out why you never appear on my blog list thingy - you wouldn't unless I followed you would you!! Sorry, I did mean to do it the past but the brain clearly wasn't in gear. . . . You'll see me regularly now!
ReplyDeleteJuliaxx
This is such a clever idea that I must do myself, to have something beautiful and keep 'track' on the colours is brilliant! Would love to go into the draw as well! Thanks Anne! Equestrian is 'my sport' so I was cheering on the team to Silver yesterday! Carole Z X
ReplyDeleteThat is great! What a darned good idea - hats off to you Anne! It looks so good it would grace anywhere in your home.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Olympics have taken over - although I do tend to fall asleep in the afternoon watching, not through boredom, just not sleeping well at the moment.
Keep enjoying
Thanks for sharing - Hugs, neet xx #27
You are so brilliantly organised Anne, it's fantastic. You may find things a little more chaotic in the Doodly Bird studio on your visit. I'm getting excited now.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
Lynn x x x
Knew I'd adore all the butterflies and I do, they are simply gorgeous. Do pop me in the draw for the mag, always open to some inspiration. BJ#76

ReplyDeleteWow! This looks stunning. May just have to steal this idea, it's so clever - hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you lovely comments last week. Glad you saw the IB show, have you been tempted yet? The daisy is one of my favourites too, and I love the rose.
Busy doing Christmas now - Kays back on the 11th!
Have fun xx
Wow! the chart turned out great and is so decorative for the wall too! I only have 6 D.inks so far so it will be a while before I need to do any form of chart :o) Glad you're enjoying the olympics. I'd love a copy of the magazine so please add me to your draw! x April #89

no. 67
Oh now that IS a clever idea! One to pinch I'm sure!!! Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I simply ADORE your butterflies! What an absolutely stunning project! Now I want to do it too!! I saw a brilliant one done with Distress Stains at the last craft show I went to, with dress forms, which was lovely too, but not as nice as this! A girl can NEVER have enough butterflies, that's for sure!!
ReplyDeleteYes, the little box is papier mache - the base box probably is (I bought quite a lot at a craft show for altering) and building up the layers with tissue paper and gel medium gives a lovely effect. You can use scraps and torn bits that would otherwise find their way into the bin, and it doesn't matter how creased they are. Love this technique! Only trouble is, if you go to the top of the box where the lid goes, the lid won't go on. (Learnt from bitter experience lol!)
Once the wonderful Olympics are over I'm planning to do some work on using up rubbish, and doing a post (or maybe more than one) on this, with some tutorials - I've learnt such a lot from Jennibellie - google her and see her wonderful recycled art!
I'm wow-wow-wowing the Olympics - did you see that awesome medal this a.m.? Our great British girls! Fabulous.
Happy WOYWW,
Shoshi #7
I've been glued to the Olympics as well! Didn't the Three Day eventing look amazing in Greenwich Park with London as the backdrop?? I have enjoyed it all, medals or no.
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly colour chart is fab!! I could live with that on my wall, no probs.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, I've been very spoiled!

Not going to do the butterfly chart, cause then I'd find out how many more inks I need to buy!lol I am loving the skimply clad athletes parade their stuff...err....show off their, uhm....well, you know what I mean!! waving hi from the awesome hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteGreat fun idea with your butterflies ! It looks lovely. Might try something similar but think I would wimp out & use a die cut shape through my Cuttlebug rather than hand cut them all ! Have a fun crafty week between the games ! Ali#53
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, Anne, you've turned a color chart into a work of art! So glad you posted this. I just got his summer colors, and i love them, I made a card with the salty ocean blue that came out great. We are enjoying watching the gymnastics at the Olympics, those girls are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOh, Annie, I'm so sorry I got you all on the edge of your seat thinking the squirrel got the baby bird! It never even occurred to me that that might be what it would read like!!
ReplyDeleteYour brilliant butterfly DI color chart looks amazing!!
What a good idea to show the disstres ink off, I think I do the same, it shows up on the white canvas. Well done for that idea.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm here Anne, is my cuppa ready?
ReplyDeleteYour canvas looks brilliant...what a fantastic idea. It's a piece of art in itself!
I'm loving the Olypmics even though I'm over here in Melbourne and it's mostly on at silly-o-clock.
Two more Golds in 24 hours ~ yeah! The Aussies were having a go at the Brits being behind them on the table...but we'll show 'em!
I better nip off for an afternoon snoozy (oh I wish) ready for yet another late night...all worth it though ;D
Oops forgot to say thanks for nipping over to my place earlier and adding my number.
DeleteHave a great week! Neesie #37
Your canvas looks very cool indeed - its such a fabulous idea. I would love to go in the pot for a chance to give your magazine a good home. Thank you so much. Good medal day yesterday! They all do brilliantly though, medals or not. Take care xx

Love your butterfly canvas and congratulations on your tim tag win x
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining me Anne, and thanks for your comments about my card x
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this and I love the way you have left spaces for inks you don't yet have! Did you use a blending tool to apply the inks? I started a list this morning of TH inks I NEED - thing is, it started as four and has since doubled. Seeing your butterflies has made me want them more x Mrs Beez
ReplyDeleteHi Anne is me again, where did you get off TH blog site and like the question berore did you use a blending tool.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, sorry I responded direct to Lisbette and I have to you too, so you won't miss it. Regards, Anne x

ReplyDeleteClaire xx
Tim might need to borrow this to show his colors off!!! Holy cow wow!!! This is amazing Anne...so much work of cutting. What a fabulous idea and a great piece of art as well! I am so impressed! It's beautiful and functional. You rock!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so Beautiful!!!! I like it with the blank space it make you want to see more.......... you did a very nice job on this too... I can see why everyone is going WILD over it!
ReplyDeleteDo you think the color will fade in the light? Oh I hope not!!
Beautiful Anne! What a great idea! Even if it is a reference for distress inks, this could also make a really beautiful gift! Well done you.
