Hello Friends
Are you doing well since my last post, two weeks ago, and keeping safe? I hope so. Not much change here, we are still in total lock down but not complaining!
I have been doing lots of day dreaming lately about wonderful holidays in Greece, Spain and France, and so for my Guest Designer project this week for AALL & Create, I used a couple of stamp sets by Bipasha to create a mixed media board, attempting to show the faded grandeur of so many of the buildings we experienced on our holidays there.
The process was pretty straightforward to I condensed the photos showing you a few steps.
I started by colouring my base using Distress Oxides, layering them until I achieved what I thought looked like an old wall. I stamped Bipasha's Shuttered Window #268 and then used her Archway stamp set #264 at the top and bottom to create some 'crumbling' stonework.
I watercoloured the elements and then stamped and coloured a separate window part which I added to create some extra dimension. I also wanted the windows to reflect the sunlight, rather than create a dark interior.
The bottom part of Bipasha's Shuttered Window stamp set has a lovely key which I stamped, fussy cut and added to the bottom of the board. I just adore the little bird.

Your mixed media board captures that weather-beaten, sun-soaked Mediterranean look perfectly. The blue shutters are so perfect against the inky warmth of the background, and I love the vines making their way across the brickwork.

Your mixed media board is fantastic! The background sure does look like the chippy stucco of a Mediterranean villa and your windows are so realistic looking! Fabulous job on this piece!
ReplyDeletePartial lock down here. Some retail stores are opening, but since I'm not a shopper, anyway, I don't feel the need to rush out and buy/shop. I'm hanging back to see what the fallout of this re-opening is like, and so is the rest of my family. I'm just as happy to work in my garden, and we have been working on our home's exterior, as well. Plenty to keep me busy and active at home. I was very creeped out by going to Charlotte to get my daughter a couple of weeks ago -- NC's hot spot.
It's all pretty weird. My friend and old teammate from the Rehab Center where I used to work (PT) came to visit the other day. They are very slow, and hours were cut drastically. If they still wanted to be paid, they could put their names in a job pool at the two local hospitals, where they would be required to do whatever needed to be done. She took temperatures at the COVID hospital, wiped down PT equipment and patient's belongings. Other PT's were assigned janitorial jobs in the COVID hospital. So happy I'm not out there now. Keep yourself healthy, my friend! It was a nice diversion to come 'visit' today!
What a beautiful board Anne, it reminds me of my trip to Venice for my 50th, what a beautiful place that I hope to go back to someday. You've coloured your pieces perfectly, and you can feel the warmth coming through the window. We are still not going out eitherit's far too soon isn't it. Take care and stay well, Sue xx
ReplyDeleteThis is such a gorgeous MM board Anne! You so perfectly managed to get the look you were going for .. it is amazing! Beautifully arranged and coloured and it certainly has the feel of the sun drenched, aged splendour to be found around the Mediterranean.

Your collage wall is outstanding, Annie! Now I feel as if I've sat with you, daydreaming of bygone days. It's been very pleasant, so thank you for that! Seeing this reminds me that we can switch our thoughts from negative ("I wonder if we'll ever go anywhere again") to positive ("Aren't we blessed to have traveled so much, done so much, seen so much!"). ReplyDeleteWell Anne you've taken me to a happy place today, thinking of holidays which seem so far away.. I can just imagine the views through those open blue shuttered windows, I wonder if you have enjoyed the scenery from windows just like those. I too love the bird upon the key, like a sign of unlocked freedom we all hope will return safely very soon.

Great project once again - I love your choice of stamps and your colouring is super. I do feel that everyone should think happy thoughts, relive happy holidays and we'll all get out of this sooner. There are groups organising mass gatherings this weekend, protesting at being told to stay in. I guess some people have no common sense. Sorry about my rant - keep crafting and stay safe. Elaine xx

We should be getting ready for a trip to Florida next week, taking the little man to Disney. Think that's going to have to wait now until next year at least. Stay safe my friend xx
