I used the Cabinet Card and mini Cabinet card dies to create the frame and then I made it 3D so that the tree looked like it is in a window. To make it 3D I simply cut a strip of card 3/4" wide, followed the line of the Cabinet Card die and then glued the frame on top. I used the Poinsettia embossing folder with Tim Holtz & Ranger Distress Collection card in Fired Brick to cover the frame. The 'wallpaper' inside the frame is from Tim's Merriment set of papers.
You can see the 3D effect of the frame a little better in this picture..... and yes, the whole piece lights up too, which you will see in a moment!
I used the waste from the front frame to create a hidden compartment for the battery pack. As you can see in this picture I sanded the embossing to lift it a little.
Because the tree is quite small and I wanted to decorate it, I added the lights to the inside of the frame so as not to clutter the tree too much. I used a few seed beads, some tinsel twine and one of Tim's Idea-ology stars to decorate the tree.
At Inspiration Journal the Challenge Theme this month is 'Sing, Sing It Loud' and we would love to see you join in - there is a fantastic prize on offer of $50 to spend at Inspiration Emporium for one lucky person.
I was inspired to make my Christmas home decor piece by one of my favourite carols but also by the current challenge at Compendium of Curiosities #17 which is Woodlands & Tinsel Twine. The technique, which I used on my tinsel, can be found on Page 60 of Tim's Compendium of Curiosities. This challenge is sponsored this time by Inspiration Emporium where there is another wonderful prize of $50 to spend. In addition, the Curiosity Crew will chose their favourite entry, who will win a fabulous prize donated by Tim and Mario.
Should you want to make a purchase from Inspiration Emporium, you can use my code Redanne to receive a 10% discount from your whole order.
I hope to be back soon with my Tim Tag for December, I hope to see you again then. Hugs, Anne xx

O Christmas Tree!!! I love this. Your tree is adorable and I love the little "window" it's nestled into. I just got the Cabinet die but I'm quickly realizing I "NEED" the mini too. Isn't that how it always goes!
ReplyDeleteAnne, this is magnificent!!! I LOVE how you've made the cabinet box and battery housing and it must have taken for ever to get it covered so carefully and beautifully. The wallpaper truly gives off a magical glow when the lights go on and the tree is the perfect centrepiece. Very good luck with this in the CC3 challenge - it HAS to be a real contender! LOVE it. Jenny xxx (ps. you're not the only one without a tree up at the mo!)

Love that song myself, and what a beautiful project it inspired on this tiny craft room tree. I'm always blown away by your ideas at using the TH products and would have never thought of the way you used these cabinet dies. How clever to make a frame for the tree & create a 3D tree. Love the colors & that poinsettia EF was the perfect one for your pretty frame. Then you add the battery pack to light it up...3D and optical. Amazing! Merry Christmas & TFS. Thanks so much for the lovely skate card. We both thought it was a WOW. Will be sharing that on the Friends Card page when I get home. Hugs
