My tag follows Tim's recipe but with different colours and a couple of different stencils (Tim ones) because I do not have the full set as yet.
Here is my effort:
I used the burlap, rays, schoolhouse and splatters stencils but to finish I added pearls instead of a charm and a key instead of a pen nib, otherwise it is similar. Click on the image for a closer view if you wish.
Because my tag has a key on it I am also entering it into the wonderful Hels' Sunday Stampers challenge which is KEYS.
But, even more exciting than doing the tag, if that is possible, I have got my hands on some of the new Eclectic Elements fabric!! Woohoo - these fabrics are lush. If, like me you have been dying to get your hands on some of these fabrics, well now you can. Thank goodness for Dyan Reaveley's shop, which you can find HERE, as she does get Tim's new things in, in record time. I am on her mailing list but even though I went online as soon as the email came through, all the larger (fat quarters) had sold out. I do believe that she got more stock in though. Anyway, I am more than happy with my half fat quarters and 10" square pieces.
I am hoping to make one of Jim, the Gentleman Crafter's passport holders with some of the fabric and a nice holdall, plus, I have already given some of the fabric away, but in the meantime I have made these:
Top left is a notebook with ruled lines, in my favourite piece of fabric. I have cut the letters from Tim's Wordplay die and added glossy accents (love that stuff) and the word 'notes' is a chit chat sticker.
On the right is a diary for 2014 with my next favourite fabric (what's not to like about butterflies!) and the notebook at the front also has ruled lines and the page edge colour matches this fabric so very well. I added a word band which says 'possibility begins with imagination', which I coloured with Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint. Finally, with the scrap of blue fabric that I had left over, I made a bookmark - so nothing wasted.
Just in case you want to cover some books too, the notebook top left is 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" in size and I used a half fat quarter to cover that. The diary is 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" and also needed the half fat quarter size to cover it. The small notebook is 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" and I used a 10" square to cover it and there was a bit left to make the bookmark.
I used Pinflair bookbinding glue to glue the fabric to the notebooks, it is very easy to do, the fabric is an excellent weight and quality to work with. With the possible exception of the red butterfly pattern, all the fabrics are suitable for both male and female projects. The fabric makes the books feel so tactile - I just love them.....
Lucky girl to get your hands on the fabric so quickly, the note books look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are scrummy and I particularly love the blue and brown fabric at the front.
Big Hugs, Angela x
Hello Anne, your tag is beautiful - lovely colours and clever placement of the key. Love the notebooks - you can never have too many notebooks I find, especially when covered in fabric. Elizabeth xx

Oh how special!! My first viewing of the fabric in creative use. And wow Anne - you have made them special - they do look soooo tactile and beautifully bound with just the right amount of embellishment. I hadn't heard of 'fat quarters' before but bring 'em on for sure!
ReplyDeleteNot forgetting your FAB-U-LOUS tag!! It is gorgeously vibrant and superbly inked! I FAR prefer it to the maestro's version. This very much exceeds 'effort' my Dear Anne! Your mojo is there alright.

Hi Anne, I really like the lovely bright colours on your tag and the way you've used those stencils but what I love the most is the ribbon at the top - that is just brilliant! And those notebooks are amazing too - I'm hoping to get some of the material at Harrogate next month, hope they have some in stock. Although I can't sew for toffee, I think I could manage to do some covers like yours - they are great. Thanks for the inspiration. Love, Margie xx

Never fear, your gift recipients will ADORE these. I think the butterfly fabric would be just fine for a guy...guys like butterflies too. (at least the one that lives here does). I love that you are able to incorporate fabric in these new books you are doing. I love fabric too, and wish I knew more ways to incorporate my quilt stash into my current hobby. Loved all 3 books, you are amazing at your designs. That tag was - as always - very fab. (I said this before: Don't tell TH, but I usually prefer yours!). ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love about those books? *sigh* Oh Anne, you did it again. You've outdone yourself ... Those booklets are beyond yummie. Love all of them. I especially love the rubber band, great idea. Can you tell me please how you made it? The fabrics are absolutely awesome and I'm sure everyone who is lucky enough to get a book from you will be more than happy. The tag is beyond wonderful as well, of course, and the pearls fit just perfectly. I don't have a TH template yet, but soon, I think :-) but two or three will suffice with me. I hope they're quite stable .. Big hugs to you, my friend, Suzanne xxx
ReplyDeleteHow could we not like those beautiful books Anne and what a fabby idea to give as Christmas presents.
ReplyDeleteMr fibby is at work here as I am sure you could not have made such a stunning tag if Mr Mojo was not around. The colours, stamps, stencils all come together in one beautiful combination of pure joy to the eye.

ReplyDeleteAnne....first of all, THANK YOU so much for your comment you left on my blog. You seriously had me tearing up with all of your wonderful things you said. I truly do appreciate all that you say...from the bottom of my heart! I think your Tim tag is beautiful. I love the colors rather than the brown tones. It may be the same recipe as Tim's but the colors make it look entirely different. :) Your little notebooks are awesome! I need to study them further as I am so inspired by them. Love each one and how you've made them all look so different. I think I may need to make some of those! Thanks for always being so willing to share how you did something. YOU inspire me! :) <3 Candy
