Do you ever have times when you would like to create something, not for any particular challenge, but just for yourself? These days I seem to take forever to create things for challenges - so this one is just for me and just for fun. As a child, my lovely Dad built me a beautiful Doll's House and I spent many months decorating it and building furniture for it and creating little scenes. When I saw Tim's new stamps of 'The Chemist' I immediately wanted them so that I could make a Chemist's shop or some kind of display. Easier said than done! I tried using a configuration box but the images, although quite large, just did not work. I don't have one of the new slimmer configuration boxes with a lid, which would have been perfect, but undaunted I used a box that I already had in my stash. After all, this was meant to be just for fun.........
The box is 6.1/2" square and just over 1" deep, it is very sturdy and you can see in the photo that I have started marking out a window.
And this is what the shop front ended up looking like. The finished item has an acetate window but I left it off so that I could photograph it better.
The Chemist's pots and jars are coloured with Distress Inks and they have been set on a small table created from card. The Chemist and pot stamps come separately so that you can place them in different situations. I love that about this set of stamps. The wall in the background has been created with backing paper and the 'chemical formula' on the wall has been stamped with black Archival Ink.
The lamp shade was created from card and the bulb is a Tim Holtz Ideaology bulb.
The window frame has been painted with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish in Vintage Lace as the base. This was coated with Crackle Glaze and then over-painted with Fresco Finish Chocolate Pudding.
The bottles are Ideaology - they have been tinted with alcohol inks, one in Rust, one in Denim Blue and then the jars were filled with coloured sand.
The labels are by 7Gypsies. What self respecting Chemist in those days would have been without a bottle of Arsenic....
The sign base above the window has been created with a Tim Holtz On the Edge die - Plaque and Postage.
The colours on the chemist sign are the same as the window but I applied a thicker coat of Crackle Glaze and used a thinner top coat to give a more weathered look. Alpha Parts have been used for the word.
I am so pleased with this set of stamps, the images are large - well done to Brett Wedele for designing them and to Tim for using those designs.
Thanks for looking! Take care and have fun creating. Big hugs, Anne x
Oh my goodness Anne! This is absolutely stunning! One of my all time favourite projects ever, by anyone. Going to have so see this irl. Love that you have added real bottles and a lamp, and the equations on that back wall are ingenious. Tim and Brett really need to see it - would you mind if I share it on FB so everyone can see how clever you are? Your friend as ever, in absolute awe of your talent, Jenny xxx

ReplyDeleteHello Anne
ReplyDeleteIt is not surprising that when one makes something just for oneself it turns out to be a special creation, and goodness this is just one of them, I know exactly how you feel re the Challenges, I enjoy participating and supporting the Blogs but sometimes it is difficult to be inspired with some of the themes and that is why it takes extra time to complete. I love your Chemist window, it is unique and innovative, now all you need to do is make the rest of the street!!!!!
Smiles:)
Sue

A fantastic piece of art Anne and an ingenious way to use the stamps, I can see that you've enjoyed yourself and had a fabulous result! Hugs, Chris x
ReplyDeleteSpectacular scene you have created with your chemist and his little shop, Annie! It is SO detailed and every detail is in it's proper place and impeccably made. I wish we could have seen those doll houses. Do you still have one, perhaps? I'm sure they were stunning and provided you with hours of enjoyment, just like this time with your chemist. I, too, loved doll houses and paper dolls. I think a lot of us started out that way!
ReplyDeleteI know you just did this for fun, but golly, I hope Tim sees this or a challenge appears that you don't know about ... not so much for a win (which you would deserve!), but so that more people can lay eyes on this sensational work of art!! xxoo Darnell
HI Anne...aaaah now I get your comment when you saw the brick wall on my card recently! This is truly stunning! I love every detail, the little lamp shade is such a fabulous touch. My dad made me a dolls house too..and a rocking horse. Somewhere there is a photo of me opening it on Christmas Day when I was very little, but at the moment it's missing. I too love to create things just for myself and I think it's when I'm at my most creative, hugs Carole Z X

ReplyDeleteA fabulous piece Anne ! really great idea I love the whole concept of this and your skillful execution, very clever! I used to be a Saturday girl in a chemist shop and the cellar store room had shelves full of those gorgeous old jars and bottles with beautiful gilt labels, I loved looking at them. I often wonder what happened to them, probably worth a small fortune now ! I agree with Jenny I'm sure Tim will love this x

Hey Anne...first of all...thanks for saying that you do what I do with die cuts; set them to the side and have to work up the courage to use them! That made me feel better...even if you don't really do that! :) Now...this chemist piece is too cool! You were really inspired when you created this! LOVE IT! You always have such neat pieces with such beautiful detail! It's always a pleasure to come to your blog. <3 Candy
