Hello Friends
Thank you for all your lovely comments on my Accordian card in the previous post. I have made a smaller one for this post. I think this Accordian die is one I am going to get a lot of use from.
The card I am showing here was meant to be a birthday card, for a friend who worries about getting older, but I used quite thick acetate to make the base, so thick in fact that the card will not fold! Lesson learned but it makes a nice decoration! I made the card as a single fold card but the Accordian card can be made as long as you wish.
The base frame is made from thick acetate and I used the Karen Burniston Accordian 3-D die to cut it out. Using the sister die (Frame & Label, Bracket die) I cut out the frame four times using 7 Dot Studios papers that I received in a recent win and glued these in place over the acetate, front and back. This creates a good strong base and covers up the joins created when putting the base card together.
I have been asked a few times whether the second die is necessary. I did try making a card without it (I did not know there was a second die at the time) but cutting out the covering frame and smaller bracket was a nightmare. The second die cuts the frame to cover the base and also the small bracket die cut to fit inside. It gives a much more professional look and saves a lot of work, so for me it was necessary.
This left the see through, floating frames in the middle which I decorated with stamped and cut out butterflies and flowers, which I glued in place with Glossy Accents. The flowers and butterflies were coloured with Distress Stains in Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint and Antique Linen.
I edged the card with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and used a rub-on from my stash for the sentiment.
I want to enter a couple of challenges with this card. The first is Country View Crafts where the challenge is to use die cuts. The base card and the frame of my card are both die cuts.
The second challenge is Simon Says Stamp and Show where the challenge is to be inspired by the letter 'S'. I have made a See through card, used Stamps, Distress Stains and added a Sentiment so I hope that is enough to qualify!
Thanks for looking and a special thank you if you leave a comment. Keep on creating! Hugs, Anne x

What a fantastic card Anne. You always amaze me with your ideas and this is really beautiful. Those butterflies are lovely and the sentiment I love. Hugs Rita xxx
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOne of the prettiest cards I have ever seen!
Beautiful Butterflies! What a stunning card Anne, using acetate gives a wow factor too, and the rub ons are such a good idea as stamping can be a bit tricky on acetate I find. Would just like to say thank you for becoming a follower. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs Lottie x
Oh Anne...I LOVE your see through card! The transparent diecuts are just wonderful with the butterflies! Brilliant really! The sentiment is hilarious! What a beautiful and FUN card! Thank you for sharing your letter S make with us this week here at Simon Says Stamp & Show!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous , those flying butterflies look scrummy! Hugs trace x
ReplyDeleteThat is so clever Anne!! Knew you would use this set of dies in a truly inventive way and this is it. Using the acetate is genius and the butterflies and flowers make sense the most of those transparent panels. Huge round of applause Anne. Hugs, Jenny x
ReplyDeleteWell, first, you forgot to say your card is Sensational! Stunning! Spellbinding! Stupendous, even! And I will Spit if you don't win!! This work of art should never have been considered a foldable card in the first place. It's ridiculous to think that this would ever be put anywhere but open and on display!! Your butterflies are so real-looking, translucent, and fabulous! I'm just sitting here shaking my head. All that work is too much for me to take in. I'm in awe, Annie. xxoo Darnell
ReplyDeleteWow, this is another amazing creation using those wonderful dies!! I have to say I am becoming very, very tempted! Love the idea of the acetate (too bad it is now a decoration rather than a card, - in fact not bad at all, this is worthy of being more than just a card....!). Love also how you have decorated it with the flowers and butterflies and the sentiment finishes it off just perfectly!!
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful - love the design and the blues and browns. Good idea to use thick acetate - it will be left out to be seen rather than folded away and put in a drawer!!
ReplyDeleteAnne this really is a stunner! The frame is beautiful and those butterflies! the way they seem to float in the frame is just wonderful. Have a very happy weekend xx
ReplyDeleteooh this is beautiful! I love the floating butterflies! The colours are gorgeous and I think those dies were definitely worth buying! xx

ReplyDeleteThis is so much more than a card, it really is a decoration and doesn't that make it all the more special, it can remain on display for long after your friend's birthday.
ReplyDeleteThe acetate is such a clever idea and the butterflies look as though they are floating on air.
Gorgeous!
Wishes
Lynne

ReplyDeleteI sooooo love your card!!! What a wonderful idea to let the lovely butterflies "fly"! I only recently got my accordeon card die but haven't had any time yet to try something with it (and I am afraid I won't have any time for it within the next whole week due to a lot of hectic going on....)....but your awesome card is definitely very inspiring! ReplyDeleteAnne, not sure if you do Youtubes, but if so, check out Scrap Made Simple. She did a technique recently with the acetate - similar to this - using a Sizzix scallop circle die. I thought about your beautiful card here, when I watched it. Might be something you'd enjoy. I enjoyed coming back to visit and looking at this one again!! LOL. Hugs

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is sooooooooo gorgeous. I found this through Astrids blog, where she told, that she got the idea from you here, and I must say, I´m just as impresed about this, as she was. Do you have any kind of tutorial for how this is made??? I´ve been looking around, but don´t see anything like that, but would really love to find out, how to make such a gorgeous creation myself too, so I hope, you´ll please tell me a bit about, how it´s made?
ReplyDeleteAll your work here is absolutely stunning, you´re a very talented lady, that´s for sure, and it´s been a huge pleasure to look around here among all your stunning creations.
Have a wonderful day and lots of more fun.
Hi Maryann, thanks for your lovely comments! I have tried to find you but cannot. I hope you read this - there is a link to a video by Karen Burniston, who designed the frame, here:
