I would like to start with a couple of thank yous. Firstly, thank you to my lovely new followers, it is wonderful and very flattering to have you along on my crafting journey.
I would also to thank all of you who commented on my last post (my poppy card). I was totally overwhelmed and very touched by the response I received. You are all very kind and generous and gave me a great boost! Thank you again.
I have not been doing too much crafting, the Builders are in full swing now and we just have to get out for a while each day to escape the noise and dust, but it will be worth it in the end.......
This is a canvas I did a couple of weeks ago, it is in the same style as my journal pages from a few weeks ago and for once I am very pleased with the way it has turned out. The colours are much brighter in real life but if you click on it you will get a better view.
The canvas is 10" x 8". I covered it with gesso first and then added some torn book pages here and there. I painted over this with two colours of Distress Paints, Broken China and Salty Ocean. Once dry I dabbed white acrylic paint over the canvas. I then used a couple of stencils (chicken wire and harlequin) and some sequin waste and dabbed through with Salty Ocean Distress Paint.
Then came the fun bit, I got my Crafters Workshop stencil out and used Wendy Vecchi embossing paste through the stencil to create the circles (did I say how much I love this stencil?). I then took some cheesecloth and coated it with white acrylic paint and put under my triple embossed Wendy Vecchi heart.
The sentiment is a Tim Holtz stamp that my lovely blog friend Sandy gifted to me. I did a very small thing for her and she sent me this amazing stamp! How lucky am I? I stamped it out on plain white card, cut the words out and then edged each in black Distress Ink.
Edited: I only linked this up late last night and today I noticed that Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stampers Week 248 Challenge is 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' where the requirement is to use some new stash (TH paints and WV Embossing Paste) or use something you have had for a while and not used (my lovely TH stamp from Sandy) so I am entering this piece into that challenge.
Thank you for visiting, I hope you will leave me a comment, I love to read them all. Hugs, Anne xx
Love it Anne -- you really came up with an idea I had not thought of. That's what I like best about all this kind of work - always original and exciting. Oh sweet friend - I am the lucky recipient and plan to use the stamp you sent me soon!! Hello Anne
ReplyDeleteThe embossing paste is so perfect it would be easy to believe that the circles were purchased embellishments.
A fabulous composition and wouldn't this canvas be an amazing gift for a younger person, it has such a contemporary air to it.
Wishes
Lynne

Hi Anne, this is a beautiful canvas, and of course I am lucky enough to have seen it close up, it is even prettier in real life. You know you were happy with this projects and so you should be, good luck in the challenge. Hugs Mo x
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, your canvas is stunning. Beautiful colours and you've created such depth to the background with the distress paints. Hope you've had a good weekend
ReplyDeleteClaire xx
I'm so loving the bold red and black against the soft blues.... a totally gorgeous creation, Anne!
ReplyDeleteAnne, this is amazing. Like Marjie, I love the strong red next to the soft blues. The black circles make everything pop and provide lovely texture and movement. The heart alone is fabulous but when set over the white cheesecloth, it really pops and looks even more amazing. The embedded text is a great detail.
ReplyDeleteFab canvas Anne! Love the colors and the heart backed with the material, wonderful! Hope the men work quick! Happy Mum's Day to you, if you are a mum, not sure if you even are!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this Anne - it has really drawn me in. Fabulous quote! Your brilliant design and the bold circles and heart are so so eyecatching. Hope the builders finish soon - all the messs etc is always a strain but it will be fab when you have it restored with yummy new bits! Snowing very heavily in Dublin right now and bitterly cold.
ReplyDeletestunning canvas Anne, loving the bright pop of red with the heart... thanks for joining in with the Sunday Stamper x
ReplyDeleteAnne...this canvas is fantastic! I love it!!! That background is so pretty and I totally love your sentiment! That red heart pops right off of the canvas! I love the touch of the fabric snippet behind it! Thanks so much for your very sweet comment you left on my blog. As always, it is much appreciated. You will LOVE that Antiquities Embossing Powder. It's got a bit of grit to it and not shiny. Sort of like Tim's Distress Embossing powders but I love the colors of the Antiquities even more. The patina ones are gorgeous, too. They are a Ranger product. I hope you can find them in the UK. If not, Simon Says Stamp has them. Have a wonderful week!!! <3 Candy
ReplyDeleteLove your canvas! The background is so soft and pretty, love that and then the heart! Everytime I use cheescloth on my canvas the modge podge makes a mess out of it and you cannot even see it, I love how yours it under the heart. The sentiment is so fun and I love the way you spread it over the canvas. Great art!
ReplyDeleteHugs Kelly
Oh my, somehow missed your poppy card post.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely lovely!
As is your canvas! :)
What a gorgeous piece, Anne. Love the striking red against the beautiful shades of blue and how you assembled all the details, esp. the bookpages in the background. Fabulous canvas. Hugs, Suzanne xx

This is fabulous Anne. The circles, the heart, the muslin/cheesecloth and the sentiment are all favourite elements. You are right - clicking on the picture transforms the view!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes too. Good luck with the builders.
Hugs, Juliaxxx
Anne, this is a marvelous canvas! I'm reading so much lately about the use of gesso, and I've never tried it! You did something wonderful with this...but then you ALWAYS DO! I so enjoy reading about the processes you use, and how kind of Sandy to thank you with the lovely stamp. It's always a good feeling when you know that you helped someone, and it's nice to be appreciated too! You deserve it! Hope the building continues right on track. Hugs & TFS
ReplyDeleteAnne this is wonderful. Your enjoyment in making it shows through.
