Hello Friends
The first of the month means a new challenge at Mini Album Makers and, as always, the challenge is to create any handmade book. Enter any form of handmade mini albums, scrapbooks, journals and book arts. See the full rules here.
I decided to create something a little different this month - a piece of book art with an underwater sea theme.
I started with a 'book box', this one is by Tando Creative. In the UK this is available here. I gave all of the pieces a coat of gesso before assembling.
Next, I gave the pieces a coat of turquoise paint.
I covered the outside of the book box with some papers by Stamperia.
For the inside box part I coloured a piece of watercolour cardstock.
Next, I gathered together some elements that I thought might look good inside the box. Me being me, I completely changed my mind on some of the items, as you will see in the finished book...
I decided to add a porthole to the front of the book, this one was created with a die by Tim Holtz. I aged it a little and added a stamp for the quote.
To finish off the box, I attached some charms to a chain and added them to the box key.

DeleteJaw well and truly on the floor! From those beautiful papers to the fabulous seahorse amidst the seaweed fronds; from the brilliant weathered porthole to the glistening gritty sand of the sea floor, this is a joy. And the tiny charms add an exquisite finishing touch. Fabulous!

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this is spectacular, Anne!! I absolutely love it!! Just the cover is gorgeous and then you open it and wow!! It's an underwater masterpiece!! Absolutely stunning!! ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. Your underwater vignette inside the box is fabulous and of course the colours and charms make th whole project scream ocean. The porthole jumped right out at me and reminded me of our cruises - we always opted for middle of the ship horizontally and vertically and that meant no balconies, just portholes although some were larger than others.

From the colours (that rust and turqoise is such a winning combination)to the textures, the whole thing looks incredible!! Happy Sunday!

Inside, you underwater scene is amazing--love the sand/pebbles and that fantastic seahorse! (Of course, there's a seahorse!) Sending hugs and apologies for being late. From colour to those super creatures of the deep this is a cleverly constructed work of art. In a line up I would have put a creative penny on this being yours as it is full to the brim of everything you love. An underwater delight that anyone of any age would/will adore and all finished off with those fabulous charms! Thanks so much for sharing and the tutorial of how it all came to be.
