Forgotten Things at Our Creative Corner

It is that time again - mid-month and time for some more inspiration for the challenge that I have the pleasure of  hosting this month over at Our Creative Corner which you can find HERE.  I hope you will go over and see what my talented Teamies have made.   Full details and rules can be found through the above link if you would like to join in, you have until 28 September - so lots of time left.

When I was cleaning up and clearing out my craft room I came upon this fabulous Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock base which I bought last year and had totally forgotten about (how could I?!). I do love how Tim's products can take both grungy and feminine approaches.  This is what I did, just click on the photos for a closer view:

This is the 'bare'clock, it is lovely and shiny but very plain.  It does have a glass front so that you can put lots of embellishments inside (and they will keep clean) or make it into a working clock, as I have done.  Tip: if you are making a working clock then you will need quite small hands on the mechanism and I bought a 'silent' mechanism as the ticking one I had in stock was quite noisy!

My clock went through four make-overs before I found a combination that I liked,  it has been black, red, white and now pale blue.  It nearly went in the bin, but I persevered.  I have sanded the blue back a little so that you can see some of the white below.  I used Fresco Finish and also Tim Holtz Distress Paints to cover the clock, over an initial base of Gesso (and unintentionally several other coats of paint!).

For the inside of the clock I laid down some lace on the inside edge, which I had tinted blue with Broken China Distress Paint and I cut a circle from some gorgeous BoBunny paper to make the clock face.  The numbers are Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs.

I wanted to add a pocket watch to the side, but the Tim Holtz one is a little large so I have used a Prima - Finnabair mini one.  I added a Renmant Rub clock face, added the word 'time' and then filled the void with Glossy Accents to give a clock face look.

For the front and second side I added some lovely flowers, the large ones were gifted to me by my lovely friend and fellow Teamie, Jenny (Buttons).   They started off as pale pink and I spritzed these with a mix of London Blue Dylusions spray and Broken China Distress Paint which I mixed in a spray bottle with a little water.  The paint toned down the London Blue beautifully and was a dream to work with.  It does not add texture but really give the flowers a firm feel.  I added a couple of stamped and coloured butterflies for some added interest.

To finish off the back I added some more of the sprayed flowers and a butterfly.  The clock back still comes off so that the batteries can be changed.

Thanks so much for looking, I hope you have been inspired to find some 'forgotten things' and join in the challenge at Our Creative Corner.  Big hugs, Anne x

  5. Oh I LOVE this, so glad you kept going with it!! That blue shabby chic feminine look is just beautiful and I adore all the little elements you have added and the fact it is a working clock! Thanks for the tip about the Distress Paint/spray also, will definitely give that a try! You have just inspired me to do something with my clock that has been lurking around my craft room for at least a year....

  6. To echo Astrid's comment, thank goodness you persevered with this and didn't bin it!! Love that it is beautifully finished from every angle and you have even added that mini watch - clever idea. Also very inspired by the idea of adding a little paint to sprays as I often find my own sprays can become too translucent and lack a depth of colour. You are one clever lady. Hugs, Jenny x

  9. Utterly delicious, Anne - I'm so glad you persevered, and what a beautiful clock you have as a result of that determination! Lovely tip about the quiet mechanism (I have a lovely clock from Ikea that I can't use because the ticking keeps me awake!), and the opaque look from adding the paint to the sprays is brilliant. Wonderful inspiration for a great challenge theme... properly challenging!

  14. Hi Anne, I love the final colour you chose for your clock, very pretty shabby chic look. Beautiful flowers and butterflies and the finnabair pocket watch is a perfect size for this project. I admire the way you always pay particular attention to the back of your projects as well as the font and sides, almost like giving everyone a little surprise they were not expecting. Hats off for making this a working clock too, pretty to look at and useful too. Hugs Mo x

  15. Anne this is just gorgeous, what a delightful clock to have around the house. I just love the shabby flowers and fabulous shade of blue and to have it working too - brilliant. What I find spooky though is I turned out a cupboard with and a cardboard box on Friday and found just one of these and it's now sitting on the spare bed waiting for me to find some time to give it a make over. How strange.
    Happy Sunday.

  16. Anne, this is beautiful. I love how the blue is sanded back in places to reveal the white underneath. The flowers and butterflies are so delicate and pretty. Great tip about mixing the Dylusions with the paint...wouldn't have thought of that. The lace around the inside is a wonderful detail and pairs so well with the pretty face paper. Just delightful!

  29. Now before I goggle and gaggle all over your clock, your post came into my in box not very long ago and I want you to look at all the people who came before me to praise your clock. Do they camp out overnight at their computer so they can be the first in line to leave a comment? Well it certainly is not a mystery as all your makes are blue ribbon winners!
Anne your clock is gorgeous and I certainly am happy you did not throw in into your trash bin. As wonderful and pretty as this is, what I like most of all is the little clock hanging from the side. It give this beautiful clock, just a touch of whimsey. And then there is that gorgeous butterfly who is trapped in the hands of time forever.

  42. What a gorgeous one-of-a-kind special clock you have created. It is so vintage & feminine looking. Loved the tiny clock you added to the side, and the wonderful face on the 'main' clock. Thanks for the tip on combining the Dylusions with the DI paint. Yet another technique to try. Those sprays are quite intense in color, but are so much fun. Loved all your details on this, which is what makes your work so extra special. TFS & Hugs

  51. Oooh! Such a lovely creation you have there. I like how you made it all soft and girly and not the usual manly gears and grunge people usually do with Tim stuff. I told my hubby about those clocks once and he was excited about them so I shut up right away least he want to me to get one and do something with them. They are great--but for other people!!
