Vintage Ladies and Friendship

I would like to say a big thank you for all your lovely comments about my ICAD and Pocket Watch, they really gave me a big boost!  Just what I need when Mr Mojo has gone off on an extended holiday.....

Today I want to share my Design Team piece for Nicecrane using Ignatio's Parisien Ladies (which sadly is not available at the moment but hopefully will be again soon).  However, Ignacio has lots of other fabulous Vintage Lady designs which can be found HERE.

This is a fairly simply design, as the image says it all really - three friends having a chat.  I love this gorgeous image.  The paper looks positively vintage and slightly distressed.  Click on the photo for a closer look.

The base card is Kraft coloured and I simply matted and layered patterned and plain papers to tone in with the colours on the image.  The edges are all distressed and finished with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  The script paper is BoBunny, the larger mat is Craftwork Cards.  I added some lace and a metal corner.

The book plate is Tim Holtz and I dabbed Vintage Photo Distress Paint over the book plate and the metal corner to dull them down and then lightly brushed Treasure Gold over the raised areas.  The word friend is from Tim Holtz Simple Sayings set of stamps.

This is my entry to Sunday Stampers where the wonderful Hels has set the challenge theme as 'Friends'. My card will be winging it's way off to a non-blogging friend soon.

Edited: I also wish to enter this into the Frilly and Funkie challenge, where Anything Goes.

                        ****************************************************

Now - on to Friendship, I have a little story to tell you, if you are interested (I hope you are). Long story, shortened version.

Those who know me well, know that I am every so slightly obsessed with a certain Tim Holtz.  You will also know that I missed out on his recent visit to the UK, despite spending 5 whole hours on the phone!  I was seriously distressed afterwards - I know, I know, there are more important things in life, but I was very upset.

On the day of the class, DH took me out to cheer me up and take my mind off things.  Well believe it, or believe it not, my amazing crafty friends Jenny, Annie, Rita, Alison, Kath and Brenda all frantically tried to contact me to tell me there was a place available in the afternoon session.  Did I get the message in time?  No, of course not, I was out shopping!  This was a double whammy for me and I think I was even more upset than the first time round..........

A few days later I got a parcel in the post from the lovely Jenny (Buttons).  It contained a personally signed, addressed to me, copy of Tim's Compendium of Curiosities Book and a Ranger apron!  You could have knocked me over with a feather!  I have since been in touch with Jenny who says that she interrupted Tim's lunch to tell him my sad story and he signed the book straight away!   The apron is from the very kind and generous Brenda (Bumblebees and Butterflies).  It is a long time since I have been so touched by a group of wonderful friends, each one met through crafting and blogging.  I know people say it all the time but crafters really are the loveliest, kindest and most generous of people - EVER.

I also need to mention my friends Mo, Darnell, Nicola and Laura who have all done some very kind things behind the scenes to try to both help and console me.  There may be others behind the scenes who have tried to help too and I apologise if I have not mentioned you.

So I want to say a very big,  personal and public THANK YOU to all of you, from the bottom of my heart. No one could ask for a more lovely group of friends.  Apologies, I did not mean to write a novel here....

So, why am I telling you all this?  Well, apart from wishing to thank these special people I want to do a 'Pay it Forward'.........  I have in my possession a used, but in excellent condition, copy of Tim Holtz Compendium Volume II (my old copy - alas, not signed by Tim though).  If any of you do not have this amazing book already, please say so in your comment and I will get DH to do a draw early next week.

Thanks to you if you have read through and reached this point!  Hope you are all getting some crafty time and please don't forget to enter our 'Forgotten Things' challenge over at Our Creative Corner if you get the time.

Big hugs, Anne xx

  1. Sorry to be missing again Anne.

Your card is beautiful and I think you did right to allow it to be the star of the show; it really is stunning.

Your story is so heart warming. I cannot imagine how you felt having to accept that you missed two opportunities to work with Tim. What can be said about the wonderful Jenny? If you had asked me to guess who did the deed, I could only have chosen that gorgeous lady!
You do deserve it of course and I hope it went some way to making up for your 'loss'! (I KNOW it did from your post!).

  3. What a beautiful card Anne. We were all so sorry that you missed out and then when the opportunity arose and a space became available, we were jumping about with excitement. But it was not to be, and your lovely DH had taken you away for the day, and I'm sure you enjoyed that too. There are so many lovely people in the craft world including yourself Anne, who have generous hearts. Jennie, you are a star. Hugs Rita xxxx

  7. Hi Redanne! So sorry to be absent so long but the loss of my father and other things have thrown me off this summer. I absolutely LOVE that image and your design! I always love vintage! Your Tim Holtz story is both funny and heartbreaking. I was reading it and could just imagine how you must have felt! I do not have any of his books! I know, sad, but I have attended some of his classes and follow him on the Internet. I love his style and techniques! Again, so sorry to have been absent for so long!

  8. First, let me say how delightful your card is. I absolutely love these vintage ladies & your treatment of the image was spot-on. Even down to the delicate lace trim. A showstopper. Enjoyed your TH story and TFS. It always helps to 'get to know' another cardmaker when you hear a bit of the background. It was so sweet of your DH to try to console you. He must have felt terrible when finding out your friends were frantic to let you know about an opening. And how kind of your friend to get Himself to sign a copy for you. Yes, it sounds as though you do have some wonderful buddies, lucky you (and THEM!). You just have to tell yourself, it was meant to happen this way, for whatever reason. I can just guess how disappointed you must have been though. Perhaps the chance will come your way again one day, and TH will remember this occasion, and make the next opportunity even more wonderful than this one may have been! Hugs & TFS such a beautiful card! And a lovely story too

  11. Hi Anne. Your card is stunning. I love the elegant vintage ladies, the papers are colours work so well together.
I can imagine how upset you must have been to miss out on seeing TH, I can tell how much you admire his work and how much you enjoy and love using his products. How lovely to hear about your wonderful friends, such a shame that they could not get in touch with you on the day. What a thoughtful and lovely surprise for Jenny to send you Tim's signed book and apron, I am sure you will treasure them forever.
It really is nice to know that you have so many kind and caring friends in blogland and I am sure they value your friendship too.
    sending you big hugs

  12. Oh Anne, you are worth all the effort and much more besides. Still gutted for you but we will just have to start bugging Personal Impressions en masse to get him to come back next year for you and everyone that missed out this time. And how generous of you to put your own copy of CC2 up for anyone who doesn't have it (don't put me in by the way).
And as for your card, what a beauty! Love the design for this and I can see why you are proud of it. You are one clever and lovely lady. Take care of yourself, hugs Jenny x

  15. oh Anne - what a fabulous card first of all but what a tremendously heart warming story - crafters are the best of folk - and that includes you as evidenced by your friends actions! I'm not sure whether I've got book 2 or not - I know I always meant to buy it but I'm not sure if it ever happened! What a loon! So you could put me in the draw - but I'll let you know! 17. A 'haute couture' card Anne! Gorgeous design with such elegance and almost understated beauty. How lucky are Nicecrane to have you!

I'm thrilled for you that you received such a special package from Jenny (and Brenda). It was a beautiful gesture from those terrific ladies. (There was no need to mention me at all as I don't feel I did anything but thank-you). I have the book so no need to enter me to your generous draw.

    Love, Nicola x

  22. We were so desperate when we couldn't get hold of you... and then feeling even worse knowing that you would then find out you'd missed the opportunity. I did my best to do some strong persuasion to get TH to come back to the UK soon - so maybe next time?!

In the meantime, your vintage card is delightful - such a lovely image, and the perfect papers to frame and layer with it.

It is no wonder that you are thinking of friends right now - you have a bunch!! I liked your explanation about the three friends having a chat. Do you think they were talking about getting the vote?
What a double whammy about the TH class. I would be willing to bet that he will be back to England. The only things we get around here are bears!!

How touching that your friends would go to so much trouble and then for Jenny and Brenda to gift you with signed goodies. I am sure you had a tear in your eye.
As for this card, oh how I love the softness to this, it is brimming with elegance.

  32. Oh wow Anne, what truly wonderful people you have met, both in person & via ye olde t'internet! Well we all have, not least myself, but what a truly fabulous thing your friends did/tried to do and for jenny to ice the cake with a 'nudge nudge, wink wink' to Tim then I can imagine your feeling that saying Thank You isn't enough. I know I would, too. I hope you privately did a twizzle & a twirl in your new apron and I'm sure you will wear it with pride every time :D How kind Tim was huh!? But I always feel he is genuinely like that to everyone, and he's ALways smilng!
I would be grateful for you to put my name in the hat for your DH to perhaps pull out for me to win the Compendium. That is very generous of you to offer it up. Sending loving hugs, Mo xx

  33. Another brilliant creation, Annie, and I'm sure it will be a winner in the challenges! Nicecrane is so fortunate to have you showcase for them! I love the vintage look with the metal corner paired with that stylish book plate and the offset lace is an awesome design feature!!

You are welcome for any comfort I brought when you were so distressed, my friend. You would have done the same for me and more! It is a comfort to me to have met you and befriended you so thoroughly through this incredible community. God bless Brenda and Jenny Buttons for their thoughtfulness in helping to ease the pain!

No thank you to the generous book offer. You are so sweet to turn around and randomly perform an act of kindness like this for another crafter! Love you! Big hugs, Darnell

  38. your card is beautiful with your usual top notch crafting skills. Ann I feel for you with the missed opportunity to attend the class, how lovely that the fabulous crafty girls immediately tried to contact you and when that failed their kindness did not stop but was re-directed into a really thoughtful gesture. One of the main reasons I would have liked to attend the workshop was to have been able to meet some of these fantastic people. I know that you will really treasure the gifts as they have value way beyond their cost. So Ann, bitter but at the same time oh so sweet memories of that day!xx

I would love you to put my name in the hat for your book, I have the first one and just never got round to getting the second one. Thanks so much for offering it up. Love, Margie xx

  48. True friends Anne are rare and precious! How absolutely wonderful for you that your friends organised such a heartwarming and thoughtful gift for you.
You deserve it too as you are always such a cheerleader for so many including me. I did not share my story today lightly, in fact it has not been publicly told before.
It is not sympathy that I seek for I feel I am stronger for the experience. Instead if it helps one person to understand that they can work through their feeling and not only survive but perhaps thrive then I will be satisfied.
Your beautiful card has such a joyous feeling to it that it does not need too much at all to make it the beautiful piece that it is.
You know something marvellous just might be around the corner... you never know.
