Sunday Stampers Week 198 - Birds - Experiment

Hello Fellow Bloggers

This week's challenge by Hels Sheridan is to create a stamped piece using birds.  I had this stamp set by Artemio that I had not used before so I thought I would experiment and give it a go, using only Tim Holtz Distress Markers to colour the image.  This is my third attempt and I am still not 100% happy with it.

When using the markers you can take your time laying the colours down and it does not matter if you put dark or light first, the markers do not get contaminated.  I used Neenah stamping card and 5 colours of markers to colour in the image.  I then did a bit of heavy breathing on the stamp and stamped onto the card.  I went around the edges with antique linen distress ink, but this contaminated the black of the birds - even though they were dry - but I carried on.  I matted and layered, added a ribbon and a few gems.  Whilst I am not entirely happy with it, I am going to keep trying to get it right, but not today, it is too hot!

If you do have a look, please leave me a comment and any further advice you may have on using the markers directly onto stamps.  Crafty hugs, Anne x

  1. This is such a lovely card Anne. I only have a die of a bird so I'm pondering at the minute. Just in from the garden as its so warm and sunny here. Enjoy your day. Hugs Rita xxx

  2. It is a very pretty card. Not sure if I have any advice to give about the markers - don't have any....yet!
The only thing I know is that they are a 'distress' formula and so react with water, and other DIs so that is why they smudged when you did the edge. Not sure if heat-setting would stop this but it's worth a try.

Thanks for commenting on my scarf and yes it is a triangle. Start with one stitch, increase at each end of every row until it is big enough. I used two and a bit balls of Noro silk mix which cost an arm and a leg and ended up casting off when I couldn't get any more stitches on the needles. I have another three balls waiting to be used and we are off to Conway in May so they are going in my bag for the evenings in front of the log burning stove.

  14. hey hun... LOVE the card, can't see why you aren't happy with it but... I know how it feels when somehting is just so when we make it. I have a tip for the markers... even though they are dry on normal card, you may see them smudge slightly... if you try Ranger Specialty paper, it is amazing, the markers kind of sink into one layer, when you blend over the top, they aren't affected at all by the blended colour.... hope that helps! Thank you for joining in with the Sunday Stamper x

I do not have his pens,,,, but I do use SU crayons with an Aqua pen... which is wet... but the paper you use makes a BIG difference... I used Canson Watercolor paper- 140-lb, I get mine at Michaels.
