A Vintage Journey - Heavy Metal!

The wonderfully talented Terry has chosen the challenge theme this time at A Vintage Journey - Heavy Metal !

In Terry's own words 'For this challenge it is not about music, or I suppose it could be.  The challenge is to share your "Heavy Metal" love of Tim and his products and this can be altered or not metal pieces (Idea-ology), foil backed paper, metallic paints or stains.  Pretty much anything with 'metal' in it or any form of.'

As always, our sponsors are Country View Crafts who are offering one winner, chosen by the Creative Guides, a £10 voucher to spend in their on-line shop.  Susan stocks an amazing range of Tim Holtz products (and yes, the new Distress Spray Stains are in !!) at reasonable prices and a fantastically quick service.  P&P in the UK is always free.  If you love Halloween it is worth checking out the website, it is decked out in wonderful Halloween images!

The challenge for me is not using metal, it is photographing it!  I decided to try to use every medium Terry mentioned (well not the music...) and this is what I created.

The ice skate is one of my all time favourite of Tim's dies and since the skate runners are metal (in real life) it was a perfect choice for me.   But I am jumping ahead here.

The base card is a white 8" x 8" one.  The first layer of matting was coated with Brushed Pewter Distress Paint and the edges were roughed up with Tim's Distress tool. Another layer of white card and then a further layer coated  with Brushed Pewter was added.  The blue layer was spritzed with a mix of Broken China Distress Paint and water added to a spritzer bottle.  Once dry the layer was embossed using a Sizzix Embossing folder that resembles cracked ice.

The next layer was cut from Tim's Cameo Frame Movers and Shapers die from white card which was covered with Ranger's Adhesive Backed Foil Tape Sheets.  This was also embossed using a Sizzix snowflake embossing folder.  I used Distress Paint in Broken China to go over the top.  I let it dry slightly and then rubbed it over with a dry cloth and then sanded the surface to take away some of the shine.

The skates were cut from white card, the heel of the boots are coloured with Gathered Twigs Distress Marker with touches of Black Soot to give an aged feel.  The runners on the skates were coloured with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain and I lightly rubbed on some White Fire Treasure Gold to make them shine. The boots have been laced up with white twine.  I went around the edges of the boots with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to give them some definition.

The ribbon is dyed with Broken China with a touch of Pumice Stone Distress Paints.  To finish off I added a pearl and an Idea-ology old fashioned ice skate.  The Idea-ology token at the top was coated with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain.

At A Vintage Journey we hope you will join in Terry's challenge - Heavy Metal, it is always wonderful to see so many different and inspiring entries.  I hope you will pop over and see what my lovely and talented Creative Guide Team Mates have made, I promise you it will be worth it!

Thanks for looking, take care and see you soon, I hope!  Hugs, Anne xx
