New Year's Resolution

I try every year to make New Year Resolutions, but they don't tend to last very long so this year I am trying to be totally realistic, in making just one and then sticking to it.  My idea was inspired by Claudia who asked us to use up one of our shopping sins for Our Creative Corner - well that got me started, so my one and only resolution for this year is to 'USE IT' - use all that stash that I bought and intended to use but never did....

This project, which is my Design Team piece for Nicecrane,  uses some of my really beautiful and rather expensive Maja Design Vintage Autumn papers (up to now I could only stroke and then had to put them away again), flowers that I have had for several years, lace that I seem to have had forever and a die that my lovely friend Mo bought me about a year ago and has never been used until now.

The beautiful image is from Nicecrane Designs which you can purchase from HERE - Children in the Victorian Age IV CS.  Ignacio sells so many wonderful images, you will be spoiled for choice!

She is just so very beautiful!  I printed the image out in black and white and then coloured her bow, dress, flowers and cheeks in pale pink with Distress Markers.  They give a beautiful subtle colour on the glossy photo paper. I will add a sentiment if and when I send the card.

The papers were cut to size and distressed around the edges and lightly coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Ink.  A smaller piece frames the picture and the edges have been dipped into Embossing Ink and coated with White Frantage.

The leaves were die cut from scraps of the backing paper and the flowers are a selection from my stash.  The lace was edged with another piece of backing paper to create a little dimension.

Since I have made this card based on my New Year's Resolution I would like to join the challenge over at Frilly and Funky which is New Year's Resolutions and you need to create a vintage style project.  There is a £25 voucher for the winner to spend at The Funkie Junkie Boutique (where Linda's prices and delivery times are excellent) and an opportunity to be a Guest Designer.

I hope you are all having a good start to your New Year, thanks so much for having a look.  Hugs, Anne xx

  11. Wow Anne,

I love this card! I think it would look great as a canvas also!!!

I didn't make any resolutions this year as I typically don't keep them. I am going to try to live more consciously though, if that makes any sense.

    Peace,
    Kay

  12. Anne, I am with you with the "Shopping Sins" of "USE IT." I can't believe all the items I have and even stamps that have never seen ink and some I wonder why did I purchase? Well your card is gorgeous in every detail! I love that subtle tint of pink coloring you gave that sweet image! The little floral arrangement finishes this perfectly! Enjoy the fast approaching weekend! Hugs!

  14. I have also decided to try to use up some of my stash and not to buy too much more! That was until the sizzix sale started... Love the card - so pretty and the paper edges such a good effect. Thanks for all the support. Hugs, Jackyxx

  15. Hi Anne, this is stunning, the layout is beautiful and suits the image so well - and I love the soft muted colours. Having just cleared out my craft room I found some unused items too..but they were all pieces for altered art..at the moment as you know, they are packed up, ready to make the journey to my little studio in the garden. I'm hoping by separating art from paper craft, I will get more of the art work done! Let's hope! Hugs Carole Z X

  16. Oh, you'll win for sure, Annie! I can't believe you colored that image! It's perfect for the time; I just assumed you purchased it that way! Your framing and exquisite details make this another work of art!

Congratulations on your resolution and the great start using up some NBUS and some lovely hoarded goodies! I'm so proud of you! Life is too short, right! Heaven help you if you still have any of that big box of stuff I sent ages ago! I know how hard it is ~ looking around the Playhouse I know that if I never buy another thing I'll be hard pressed to use what I own before I die, and that's assuming a very long life!! It's hard to resist new things, especially when we see them on blogs like you've done here! Very enabling you are!!

Let me know how you doing with your healing and mobility when you get a chance. You're in my thoughts always! I'm off to bed for now ... Lots of love and hugs, Darnell

  18. Oh Anne, this is really lovely, the image is so pretty and I love the touch of Spun Sugar on it, a really perfect vintage card. You have given me a New Years resolution.... What's the point of keeping things for a rainy day it's pouring outside! I shall sort out all my untouched stuff this weekend, perhaps I may need longer though!
I hope you are healing well, I'd love to know how you are fairing, hope all is going well.
    Love barb xx

  21. Hi Anne - I'm so glad you made that resolution and made this piece - it really is stunningly beautiful - just gorgeous! That image is stunning too! I just caved in and booked the extra night for the Hels up North tour - I don't fancy the early morning trek up there so although its broken the bank I think it will make for a happier me! Can't wait to see you up there! Big Hugs rachel x

  22. Gorgeous pretty card Anne, I want to get some prettiness into my work this year, but like you I am determined to use my stash of papers. It really is quite liberating when you make those first few cuts and you realise the world hasn't ended ! Ha ha xx

You know I have been looking at the scrapbook product that is coming out from CHA right now and there is not a whole lot I want.

  27. Your flowers on that card are adorable, Anne,

and I can understand why it wasn't easy for you to use some of your Maya Design Papers....I really hoard papers and hardly ever use them because they are all sooo beautiful! *giggle

Thank you for your wonderful comment on my books of ruination. The workshop is worth every British Pound. I really enjoyed messing around with the acrylic paints...and even better: there's an additional workshop included with this one! Will have to make that as well soon! Yay!

    Big hug,

  28. Anne, this looks as though it would be found in a very old museum album. So very delicate & beautiful. I smiled at your 'paper stroking'. I bet we all understand that. Applause to you for the courage to cut into it. (your heart kinda squeeks when you do that I think. Very difficult to do on a favored DP). Loved your idea of tinting the cheeks - it added so much softness & appearance of an old photo. Your beautiful flowers & the embossed frontage created such sparkle & beauty. This is just wonderful and good for you on making such a worthwhile resolution. I need to borrow that one myself! Love these Nicecrane images too. TFS & Hugs.

  29. This really is girly Anne but gorgeous. It's crazy really how we buy lovely papers and stuff and then find it so difficult to use them. I think we need to be brave this year and use things up, at least it will make space for all the lovely new things!
Good luck with the challenge, sending hugs, Angela x

I do love the way you did the lace border with the flowers - really beautiful! My New Year's resolution is to do the 12 Tim Holtz tags for 2014. It is going to be a great year Anne - I just know it!!
