Mini Album Makers March Challenge

Hello Friends

It is time for a new challenge at Mini Album Makers and as always, it is anything goes, as long as your entry comprises any form of handmade mini album, scrapbook, journal and book art.  Our focus is on completed works, so no layouts or journal spreads that are not part of a complete handmade book project.  You do not have to provide a tutorial, but we wish you would.  Feel free to use one of the DT tutorials to make your project and give proper credit where due.

I have a new found love for ATCs, so I made a little ATC album holder to house them.
I used a couple of stencils from one of our recent Sponsors, StencilGirl.  I have a few step by steps to share with you, this is such an easy little album to create.
I started by preparing the background, using PaperArtsy paints, applied with a brayer and dabbing the same colours of paint through a StencilGirl stencil - Ribbons
Since both sides of the card would show, I treated the reverse side the same way and using the Squared On stencil by StencilGirl - I love this stencil!
Create the pockets for the inside, by:
1) taking a piece of card measuring 7" x 4.5/8"
2) Score at 1/2" and 3.3/4 " on the long side and at 1/2" on the short side
3) Cut where shown in the above picture
Once cut and scored, each pocket should look the above.  Fold on the score lines and glue together for form pockets.  I made eleven pockets in total for my album but you can make as many or as few as you like.
Once assembled, punch a finger hole at the top of each pocket.  Place strong tape (or glue) along the centre of each pocket and glue together in an accordion fashion.
To create the cover, cut a piece of your painted and stencilled card into a strip 11.5/8" long and slightly wider than the finished pocket (in my case 3.1/4").  The width may vary depending on the finished width of your pockets.  I find it easier to wait until the pockets are formed, before cutting the cover to size.

Score at 4.1/8", 5", 9.1/8" and 10" - again, you can adjust the scoring lines to fit your pockets.
Glue, or tape the completed pockets to the front and back cover, but without gluing the bottom of the pockets, they will stay put without glue or tape and will provide some movement if you have thicker ATCs to store in some of the pockets.

Once assembled you can finish off the outside by adding a button and string closure as in my case or by using a closure of your choice.  I added some more stencilling and marks to the outer part of the cover.
Here is a view from the top, with some ATCs ready to be stored away.

We hope you will join in this month at Mini Album Makers where our Sponsor for the month of  March is the one and only Seth Apter!

  6. Anne, what an incredibly beautiful use of these stencils! I adore how you assembled this. I made one similar for a tag book one time, but like the ATC size better because those do seem to be harder to store. I just love this project and appreciate you sharing the measurements and details. So fun! Hugs, Autumn

  14. What a lovely way to store your ATC's, in this wonderful pink album. Love the stenciling pattern with the hot pink button and that wonderfully textured aqua star. First thing I saw was this huge pink button as the blog scrolled....what a super decorative way to close this little album! Happy weekend, TFS and I hope you're keeping warm if you're in that frigid cold belt. Hugs

  15. Anne this is a fabulous idea, your construction is genius how they are all housed separately. Great idea to cut the cover after, I know only too well how these projects can expand in the blink of an eye leaving us baffled on how that came to be. Your BIG Button sends a BIG statement.. Holding it all together.
I had a real love for ATC's up until late last Autumn when I decided to give myself a larger canvas to work with for my sketches and drawings.. Now I work on A3 I find it so difficult to condense it all down to ATC size. i need to find a happy balance between the two before it is too late as the artwork that can be achieved on something so small can be so magnificent. I think you may just have inspired me..!!
Wishing you a super weekend & hope the weather has been kind to you.
    Creative wishes Tracey xx

  16. Oh Anne, this is so super clever and such a great design!! Love how you put it together and you have just totally inspired me to make one myself! Atcs got me into papercrafting many years ago and I must have collected hundreds of them from all over the world, they are so much fun and the collection you have there looks fantastic! I feel all inspired to make atcs again now :o)

  25. Oh my gosh, this is such a fabulous idea Anne! I just love functional projects and this one is amazing, I'm thinking I may borrow this tutorial to make one for holding business cards!! The colours are wonderful and that big button is so much fun! You really are a talented lady bursting with creative ideas!

So many people have been hit with snow recently, but here in Canada it's been lovely spring weather for the most part. How ironic is that! I haven't had a chance to get out yet and enjoy any of it, but the summer birds are arriving and the smells and sounds of the warmer season are starting to become more noticeable. Looks like it's shaping up to be a season of tons of babies!! sending hugs to you and hoping you have a lovely weekend :)
