Hello Friends!
I am trying to keep up with journaling as I have two lovely journals that I rarely touch, one is a Dylusions one and it is really big (which is what puts me off - all that white space!).
The theme this month at Creative Carte Blanche is Sun, Moon and/or Stars. Yvonne asks
for one or all of them, so I decided to create a journal page - a really big one!
I chose to use the moon and some stars for my page.
I cut four pieces of the Tim Holtz Birch Tree die and carefully pieced them together, they measure approx 10" x 7". I gave the piece a coat of Picket Fence Distress Paint and then applied some Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke Paint with a cut up credit card. I applied it in patches to try and give the appearance of Birch bark.
I created a mask for the moon. For the background I used a Distress Crayon in Chipped Sapphire, smooshing it quite heavily across a piece of white card, which was prepped with Gesso. I lightly spritzed the crayon and moved it around with my finger.
I took the mask off and used Tim's Stripes Stencil over the moon and sky and wiped off some of the crayon with a baby wipe. I used a small paintbrush dipped in water to remove some small dots to form the 'stars'.
Before attaching the Birch Trees I added a tiny bit of glitter to the moon to give it a bit of shine, sadly this does not show in the photo. I attached the Birch Trees using some thin foam pads to raise them slightly over the background. The words are from Tim's Big Chat words.
I decided a bit late in the day to add some 'ground' colour, using a Distress Crayon in Vintage Photo. Once I attached it to my journal page, I thought it lacked something, so I added this rabbit (by Crafty Individuals), also coloured with Vintage Photo Distress Crayon.
A final look at the completed page.
I am entering this into Creative Carte Blanche - Sun, Moon and/or Stars monthly theme.
Thanks so much for looking, hope to see you again soon!
Hugs, Anne xx

This is just stunning Anne! Your background is perfection and I adore the birch trees! I was just driving through the Rockies the other day admiring them. You have captured them perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAnne....this is truly a beautiful piece! Add a deer and a little snow and you've got a beautiful Christmas background! I really love your trees. Always such inspiration to see the finished work, as it's so lovely, but it's equally fascinating to see the photos of each step. Love the way you've used the crayons over the gesso. Really made a wonderful night sky behind the fab birch trees. You got the dark spots just perfect, as that's exactly the way these white birches look when I see them in New England's woods. Adding the cute rabbit was a nice touch of whimsy. Good job on this - but it always is, in your hands! TFS & thanks for the good wishes sent my way. Hugs
ReplyDeleteNow Anne, I never would have guessed that you used this birch die to create such a large piece! Can I say WOWZERS! Hot diggity dang girl! Absolutely fantabulous and so really looking. Love the added glitter and shadows over the moon. Awesome sauce! To infinity and beyond! Hugz to you muffin! ~Niki

ReplyDeleteBeautiful journal page Anne, what a lovely scene you have created with those fabulous birch trees and glittery moon and stars. Your sentiment is a perfect choice to go with Mr Hare, I would love to know what he is wishing for. Mo xx
ReplyDeleteI'm late, Annie, but I finally got a chance to come over and see how you did this spectacular page I saw on FB! I wish I could get inside your head for just one day! The designs that form there are absolutely amazing! You even know when one of your creations needs just that "something" more and then you come up with the perfect something! Once again, this is too good not to be framed! Don't make it live in a journal!! Love and hugs, Darnell xxoo
ReplyDeleteA fabulous journal page! Anne I'm a sucker for a moonlight sky and yours caught my eye right away. Just wonderful !

Deep sigh of pleasure! Your birch trees are stunning against the starlit sky, and the hare is just the perfect addition, gazing at the moon. (Yes, I know they call them bunnies, but they're hares to me!) Beautiful, Anne.
