I am sorry that I had to miss Challenge #18 but it is a bit tricky at Christmas fitting everything in, especially with visits and visitors! But it was certainly fabulous to wake up on New Year's Day to find that I won on Challenge #17 - my thanks to the Curiosity Crew!
Challenge #19 is all about Frayed Fabric and you can find the details of the technique on Page 66 of Tim's Compendium of Curiosities III which you can buy direct from Tim (signed).
Before Christmas we had a wonderful Secret Santa swap at A Vintage Journey and I was lucky enough to be drawn by the super talented Brenda of Bumblebees and Butterflies. Brenda made me a fabulous book to hold my Tim Tags in (she knows me well!). Brenda kindly left the cover blank in case I wanted to add to it myself - so I have used Tim's Frayed Fabric technique to cover it. I hope Brenda approves.....
If you would like to see the whole of the book that Brenda made me, you can see it HERE. It is stunning so I wanted to do justice to the cover. It started out like this:
And now it looks like this:
I know my stitches are a bit wonky in places but I think that just adds to the character (yeah, right), but Tim does tell us to embrace imperfection, so I did!
I cannot share the technique with you, as that would not be fair to Tim, but I loved working with this beautiful fabric again! Apologies for the light in the photos, I have not quite figured out how to use my new light box properly yet... it came without instructions..... and our days here are quite gloomy.
I added a couple of pieces of Ephemera from one of Tim's Ephemera card packs along with the Idea-ology metal arrow and fawcet piece. I also added an Idea-ology Fragment and Label Letters to form the date underneath.
Tim and Mario are offering a wonderful parcel of Tim goodies to one person, selected by the Curiosity Team and the sponsor for this challenge is Inspiration Emporium who are, as always, offering a fantastic prize of $50 to one randomly selected individual.
This piece also represents my DT piece for Inspiration Journal where the challenge this month is 'Fresh Start' where we want you to just create - the sky's the limit! You have until 31 January to get your entry in and our generous sponsor Inspiration Emporium are offering a generous $50 to one randomly selected individual. You have got to be in it to win it! We hope to see you there!
As always, thanks for looking! See you again soon. Hugs, Anne xx

ReplyDeleteAnne...I just had to pop over to your other link to see the complete book. Oh my word! What a lovely piece of art that Brenda created for you! She is such a talent! Your frayed fabric for the cover is absolutely perfect to compliment the beautiful contents hidden within the covers of the book. I love your design and the layers of machine stitched shapes and images. The added metal Ideaology also is a nice touch. I adore the frayed edges!!! Thanks so sharing this lovely piece with all of us at CC3C. <3 Candy

Oh Anne!! I LOVE your Frayed Fabric cover!! I LOVE your wonky stitching--YAY for wonky stitching :) :) I think Brenda will also love what you've done :) Look at that faucet handle you've added :) I really like the metal embellies with the mix of fabrics--it's like the fabrics 'calm down' the metals and the metals 'amp up' the fabrics!! Look at how well you've got all of it working together!! LOVE THIS!! OK--is this going to be another win for you at CC3 #19?!! ;) :) XOXO-Shari
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, is this cover ever gorgeous! I love the added ephemera and Idea-ology. It all comes together so nicely and not over-done. I'm so glad you provided the link to take a peek at the inside pages. My jaw dropped over every single page Brenda made for you. Your'e one lucky duck. I know you will treasure this forever.

ReplyDeleteLovely book, the fabric is beautiful Anne and love how you have done your stitching panels x
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done with the place, Annie!! Now I have to ask, with the word chocolate front and center like that, do you find when you reach for your beautiful book of tags that you also want to reach for a piece of chocolate?! Don't tell me if you don't, because then I'll just be jealous that you have will power and I do NOT! Seriously, it is really awesome fabric and I love it, love the stitching and the fraying, and love the awesome doodads (ephemera)!! I knew how much you would value this gift and cherish it forever when you received it from Brenda and now you have made it even more of a treasure!! Hugs, Darnell xxoo

ReplyDeleteWell I've missed several and not sure I'll make this one either....sadly, as I love fabric, but this is a perfect addition for the cover, beautiful use of the fabrics and just enough embellies, Just lovely and gorgeous and well yes I love it Anne! Ruth xx
ReplyDeleteHi Anne this is totally fabulous have a wonderful weekend huggles Sue xx
ReplyDeleteWow! What an amazing way to do the TH technique! I think the wonky sewing does add character to this piece (I can't see a stitch at all) so I never would have known it wasn't intentional. Hehe! Fabulous new cover to an already wonderful book! ~Niki
ReplyDelete1st: Congratulations on your wonderful win (no surprise to me, bet you won it hands down!) but it's lovely that your super work was recognized! (2) what a lovely & thoughtful gift you received from someone who knows just what you like. It was already very awesome, but with your craftiness on the cover, it just really excels. Your stitching did indeed add 'character' and texture, and I didn't think it was imperfection, just great design detail. Loved all the little bits & bobs of TH goodness you've added, and that closure piece really worked so well with all the other embellies. I can just guess your generous gifter was pleased to see what you did to her thoughtful gift. TFS & Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love how you've used this beautiful fabric! Such a gorgeous project with so much character.

I didn't notice the wonky stitches and anyway, as you rightly say, they only add to the character of the cover. All the TH elements also add character. I love what you have created and have no doubt that Brenda thoroughly approved.
