Thanks to everyone who left such lovely comments on my last post about joining Team ATB at the Artists on the Block, it really means a lot to me.
The challenge at CC3C, run by Linda Ledbetter, of Studio L3, is to use Tim Holtz's Faux Tea Rose Technique as outlined in his Compendium of Curiosities III, page 65. I cannot describe the technique in this post as you must use your own personal copy of Tim's book. If you do not yet have a copy of the book you can buy a signed copy direct from Tim Holtz himself.
The Curiosity Crew (who have created the most wonderful projects to inspire us) will be choosing a winner and that lucky person will win a fabulous collection of Tim goodies, kindly donated personally by Tim and Mario! This fortnight the challenge iseven numbered and will therefore be sponsored by Inspiration Emporium who are generously awarding a $50 voucher to spend in the shop to one randomly selected individual.
I had some of Tim Holtz's fabulous Eclectic Element fabrics left from a previous project so I decided to try making the tea roses from the fabric (backed with Kraft card) and I am really pleased with the way they turned out.
The base card is Kraft and I matted some French Industrial paper on top after distressing the edges with a distressing tool and applying Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to the edges.
After making the roses I edged them with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink to give them an aged look. The leaves are cut from the greenery strip die and have been painted with Evergreen Bough and Peeled Paint Distress Paint.
I used Tim's large pocket watch die to make the frame which was painted in Gathered Twigs Distress Paint and then Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint was applied over the top. The picture inside the frame is one of Tim's Found Relatives. I love this beautiful picture of the young couple setting off on their married life together - I have conjured up all sorts of stories in my mind about them.
I added some of the remaining strips of fabric and burlap which I plaited and added an Idea-ology heart to the top with a tiny bit of twine tied in a bow.

I love this Redanne on so many levels. The natural feel of it all. The textures. The colors. It's just beautiful. And can I tell you that I learned something from you? Backing those fabric flowers with kraft card stock. I started my creation with the idea of using fabric and then decided they were too flimsy and gave up on the idea. Now I know to back them next time. I love the way yours turned out! Thanks for the inspiration and for playing along in the CC3Challenges.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely wedding card Anne! Love the cloth roses and the crackle on the watch framing - your woven pattern is so pretty with the little heart attached. I just made some flowers using the cloth adhered to Clearly for Art Modeling film (layered on an ATB!) that I'll be posting on Friday....
