Tim Tag March 2014

Hello and welcome!

I had it in mind to something completely different than Tim Holtz did this month, as I normally do not have all the required items.  But, this month I had purchased the stamps Tim used, albeit the mini set so I decided to go with what he did.

Doing this tag reminded me of growing up in Canada.  Each year we had a two week idyllic holiday on Manitoulin Island in the northern part of Ontario.  We stayed in a log cabin and there was a lot of forest around where my Brother and I would go to 'collect' things.  I would collect dead moths, broken bird eggs and feathers - I thought I was going to be a world famous Ornithologist when I grew up.  I would race back to the cabin and 'pin' my finds on a board and number them............. those were the days!

So, on to my tag.  Like Tim, I did a main one and a second generation one, just as Tim did:

Because my stamp set is the smaller one, I used a No. 5 tag.  I followed Tim's instructions so I won't repeat them all here.  I stenciled over the tag as Tim described and then stenciled over a No. 8 tag and mounted the smaller one on top.  This gave me a little more space to add the jute string and the word band.

I used different colours of Distress Ink for my feather stamping (Peacock Feathers, Gathered Twigs and a little Scattered Straw) and also for my vintage ribbon at the top and colouring the word band using Peacock Feathers Distress Paint.

I do love the look of this second generation stamping, although mine dried quite quickly and my 'smudging' did not work as well on the second stamping.  I added Tissue Tape to both tags, just as Tim did, I love the effect it gives.

I just wanted to tell everyone too, that I have stepped down from the Our Creative Corner Design Team.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, it was a great experience.  I will miss my team mates (although some of them are also on A Vintage Journey, so I have the pleasure of working with them there.  Thank you to all my blog friends who supported OCC, they have some amazing challenges coming up which I hope you will join in.

Thanks for looking, hope to see you soon.  Big hugs, Anne xx

  1. These are gorgeous Anne and so perfectly aligned with TH's tag. The way you matched up the stencilling on both tags is immaculately done. That stamp set looks so appealing! You will be hugely missed from OCC. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Nicola x

  4. Such beautiful tags, Anne - I love the mini versions you've created, and they look so cool mounted on a second tag layer - so clever! Gorgeous stamping, and the turquoise ribbons work perfectly with the tip of the feather.

We will miss you at OCC, but I'm glad we still get to Journey together in a Vintage manner!!

  5. These tags are stunning! I love the theme, the stamps and colours are gorgeous! I loved reading about your memories of Canada. My Mum was born there as my Granddad was Canadian so I heard lots of stories from my Grandma and Granddad's ranch before they came to England when my Mum was about nine I think.

  8. These are fabulous Anne, both so attractive in the way you have used the number 5 tag and mounted against the bigger one. The latticework stencil has become a firm favourite of mine, it looks fabulous with the colours you have used.
I think you are going to be greatly missed at OCC, but so glad you are a part of AVJ with Tim, Tim and more Tim lol.
    Have a great week.

  9. Anne,
How beautiful your tags are, they are so evocative and I especially love that they brought to your mind memories of idyllic holidays, that is so special.
The second generation tag is equally beautiful to the first.
Sometimes we all know within ourselves when the time is right to step down from a DT even though our time spent there has been special, I am sure this is how you feel about OCC.
    Wishes

  14. That is very, very clever, Annie (and Tim)! An awesome way to get two tags made at the same time and I like that they are different in terms of the intensity. A+++ once again, if Tim were to ask me! You are the best student!

It's late here as I'm staying up to make sure a planned thingie gets posted okay at midnight, so I'm not as sharp as I am during - oh, never mind, you know that's just an excuse, I can't fool you.

So, anyway, in your post where you said, "This gave me a little more space to add the jute string and the word band.", well, I scrolled and looked at the tags looking for the word "band." It only took me a second to realize what you meant, but I laughed out loud and thought you might get a kick out of it, too!

The OCC challenge will miss you!! Have a great day, my friend! Love and hugs, Darnell

  22. Your tags are splendid Anne - how in the world could anyone do any better I ask!
I could not get mine to smudge for love or money. I truly love what you did. As I am into a sharper contrast, my favorite is the first one. What a great idea - a double tag -- hmmmmmmmm.

  31. As always, delightfully Tim! Love these smaller tags & the miniature stamp sets you've employed on these pretty tags. Actually, I think I prefer these to the larger sizes. They are so much more delicate. Love the way you've done the feather. Enjoyed reading about your summer memories too. Isn't it lovely to still be able to remember? TFS & Hugs.

  39. Hi Anne, love the snapshot of your young life in Canada, it sounds idyllic and really makes your tags more yours than Tims if you know what I mean. I like how you layered the tags, great idea, and the peacock coloured feather. Both tags are lovely but for me I like the subtlety of your second generation tag.
