Words, Words, Words for Our Creative Corner

It is time for some mid-month inspiration over at Our Creative Corner where my very talented teamie Alison (Butterfly) has chosen 'Words, Words, Words' as our challenge theme for August.

I was totally inspired by Margie's incredible Jane Austen altered book, at the beginning of this challenge.  I had the Indigo Blu Elizabeth Bennet stamp in my stash for ages (unused) and when Craft Stamper magazine's freebie this month was a mini version, I just had to use it along with a page from the beautiful novel, Pride and Prejudice, as my 'words' element.

The base card is cream and I edged it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then matted some plain brown cardstock on top.  I took another piece of cream card, dry embossed it with a honeycomb embossing folder to pick up the honeycomb of the main image.  I added a page from the novel, ripped the edges and coloured with Vintage Photo DI on both pieces.

The Elizabeth image was stamped onto cream card and coloured with Distress Ink, using a water brush.  The edges were torn and then coloured with Vintage Photo DI.  The flowers and butterfly were stamped again, coloured, cut out and decoupaged to add some interest and dimension.

added some cream lace and a lovely metal corner which has been coloured with rust Alcohol ink.

To finish off I got my Melt Pot out.  I have been a little hesitant using my Melt Pot but I had great fun doing this.  I stamped the mini freebie stamp from Craft Stamper onto cream card, coloured the image lightly and cut it with punch into a circle.  I placed a round cookie cutter over and poured melted clear ultra thick embossing powder into the circle, let it cool and then added it to the card.  How lovely to have a mini version of such a beautiful stamp.

I hope you will pop over to Our Creative Corner to see what my talented teamies have made and that you may be inspired to join in, if you have not done so already!  There is still plenty of time to join in so I hope you will come over and play along.

  1. This is absolutely exquisite, Anne! I too have the big and the small stamp and have got caught up in other things and haven't used the small one yet so you have inspired me. You have done a wonderful job - it is not easy decoupaging the flowers on that image, is it?!

  14. This is gorgeous Anne and thanks so much for the link to me too. I just got the small Elizabeth stamp with the CS but I really like the way the details show up on the big one. You are so clever making the mini version with your melt pot and your card looks so very elegant with the lace and all the distressed edges to the paper. Love, Margie x

  15. Another gorgeous card. Loved all the textures & elements you used, and especially interested in your results with the melting pot. Mine is a NBUS as well. I always fall back on UTEE instead of dragging out the pot. You just inspired me. Your take on the theme was wonderful, and loved the soft lovely effect you achieved on this pretty image with your DI w/c. {Sigh}...wish I could get that much success with water coloring! Just a beautiful vintage card. TFS & describing how you created it.

  16. Wow Anne - Your card is delicious - It has an antique feel to it like something you would find in an old trunk. I love that little image - that was luck getting a freebie like your big image!! Great timing Anne. As you probably know, you have thrown me for a loop by switching pictures - it's not nice to fool old people!!!!

  17. Completely gorgeous card Anne. I got the mini stamp the other day & you have given me inspiration, (as always), in how I could use it. I love your use of the mini stamp for the embellishment. There's quite a size difference in it & the rubber one isn't there. Have a wonderful weekend Anne :0) Mo x

  18. I do so like that stamp and Anne, your use of it here is so sympathetic to the style of the stamp. Also the mini version (I do not purchase CS which is a pity as the mini stamp is a delight).
A most beautiful card brimming with grace.

  28. Another impeccable work of art, Annie! I do love how the inked torn edges remind me of the decoupage so popular back in the early 70s. You get that lovely result without having to actually burn the edges of the paper. And your little mirror image is such a perfect finishing touch to give even more dimension and to balance it out stunningly!! This whole melting pot thing is so fascinating to me to watch and admire - from a distance. I don't need one more thing to become addicted too, LOL!! Hope you and David have a wonderful weekend! xxoo Darnell

  37. Well this is just amazing Anne, not just your card, which is stunning - but yesterday I too stamped my free mini version in readiness for putting inside a bezel and using with my melt pot! You know I love the large version of this stamp, so was thrilled when the mini was this month's free gift. Glad to see you succumbed to the melt pot as well! Hugs, Carole Z XX

  38. This is utterly wonderful, Anne - glorious use of the tiny stamp, with the gorgeous glossy finish, to echo the main EB - and both of them so beautifully tinted. Love the dimensional flowers on the main picture, too, and such delicious distressing on the book page and the embossed panel. Brilliant interpretation of the challenge, with words and one of my favourite fictional characters taking centre stage!
