Hello Lovely Blog Friends
It has taken me about a year to realise that I do NOT have to rush out and buy all things Tim Holtz just because The Man himself uses them. I can improvise - well I think I can. For April's tag I had not one thing that he used (except the label and a small crown). I'll be honest, it did put me off doing the tag - but I have seen so many other entries each month that do not use everything religiously. So I had a go and this is the result:
I had a Heidi Swapp mini mask that looks similar to The Man's new die so I inked over it, cut it out, coloured it and voila - result! I used my favourite Hero Arts newspaper print stamp and stamped the tag, coloured it with distress stain, embossed it, sanded it and coloured again over the embossing. I am reasonably happy with the result. I triple embossed the bird and when he dried I tried to straighten him out and he split. That is why I put the sentiment bar on that says - Embrace Imperfection! The fluffy bits on the top were a freebie, if you buy things from Craft Obsessions they always send some to you and I do love these blue ones - not very Tim Holtzy but what the heck.
Hope you like it and if you do, please leave me a comment and I will try and return the favour.

This is gorgeous Anne, love the colours.xxx
ReplyDeletewhat a great tag .....know what you meank about not having all the bits great to ssee you improvisationhugs
ReplyDeleteAnn, this is just gorgeous! I love your colour scheme especially. I know what just you mean about not having all the stuff - I have the most limited craft budget ever! People 'post' what they buy at a craft show in one day and it's more than I own altogether! But, it never stops me from playing and being happy with what I have got. Last weeks breakfast packaging is next weeks 'tag' background in my daughter and I's house! xx
ReplyDeleteA great take on Tim's tag and a wonderful colour. Thought at first you said 'the bird spit' - must get new glasses. Also love the Craft Obsession freebies you used, I had some gorgeous pinky/lilac fibres from them the last order I made.
ReplyDeleteRe- Happy Stampers. If they have sold out of tickets Anne, I have a spare that you can have. I'm away from a week on Saturday but if you let me know by email (see profile) by next Thursday I can post it to you.

PS Are you wearing your WOYWW badge?
Fantastic interpretation Anne! It's great to play as it seems to generate unexpected ideas every time. Your background is so interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteI find that if my triple embossed embellies split (like the teapot did) it can just be reheated and this 'reheals' the UTEE glaze. Hope this helps.

You would not know he was cracked at all, but then be like TH...he would probably crack it several times and then distress it some more! lol I did check out the site but have decided to do the tags later as the AB is taking up my focus right noe, but I am loving looking at ya'lls tags! waving hi from the blustery hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteI love the tag! The colors are perfect and that cute little bird with the crown stole my heart! :)
It doesn't matter if you didn't have the Tim Holtz supplies. :)
Hugs
Lovely tag TH said you can with what you've got, i did'nt I had the bird on the branch or the saying. I love the colours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Tag and the colours are so lovely xxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteyou are right, it is always tempting to try and replicate exactly - but where is the fun in that - this is how we learn (says she, who has been know to shop on purpose...lol!) I love your tag. this time I improvised too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Anne! I really love the ones that aren't exact copies. Your spin is great and the tag is lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh I much prefer to see the tags that are interpretations of Tims tags, just like yours. I never let lack of TH products or tools deter me from making my version of tags. I think your tags looks fabulous by the way. There are so many to look at and I only get time to look at the ones that quickly grab my attention, like yours!
ReplyDeleteI agree with 'misstreez', Tim's tags are a guide. If I really want something (& can afford it) I will buy it but if not - well like you there must be something in the stash I could use instead. It's a good way of using up all those little bits & pieces. I love your vibrant, happy tag. Lovely as always. Sx
ReplyDeleteNice to see that you used your own stash rather than wanting to buy everything TH. I am inspired by that although I myself don't buy anything but basics like distress inks and a few inexpensive metal charms etc by TH. I don't even have a die cut machine, I only have an embossing machine. So I think I will take your cue and start using what I have got :) Thanks for sharing this gorgeous blue tag!
ReplyDeleteWell done Anne.
ReplyDeleteWow Anne - CONGRATULATIONS on the shout out from Tim. I see why; you have such lush, deep, wonderful colors. Ahh, I love crafting! Have a great day!
