Shopping Sins for Our Creative Corner

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I am back with my Design Team piece for Our Creative Corner.  Laura announced some exciting news about changes to the OCC blog so I hope you will pop over HERE to get all the details.

The wonderfully talented Claudia has chosen the theme this month which is 'No more shopping sins' and in Claudia's own words:

A popular pledge amongst crafters is ‘I will use up my stash’. Don’t we all have cupboards and shelves groaning under the weight of things we’ve bought and decided to save for a project that never happens? And then you feel guilty so you hide it under a new pile of (new) stuff!

This January I decided that it's the perfect time to finally get rid of that guilt. I challenge you to find one of your former ‘shopping sins’, open the packet, stroke it one last time, and then USE IT!

So bring out all of those treasured hoarded items that you feel guilty for buying and put them on show - and make your secretly gnawing scrapaholic's guilt go away. As simple as that ;)

I am a massive fan of Wendy Vecchi and I have many Art Part packages which are still unopened.  Yes, I admit it, I am a terrible hoarder but it really does take a lot to make me open the packages.......... well this month I have opened three!!  So it is a big thank you to Claudia!  I am going to try to do this more often this year........

I also used my favourite Wendy sentiment stamp and stencil and created this hanging:

The base is made from the Square and Rectangles Art Parts set and has been covered in Walnut Stain Distress Paint.  I stenciled over the frame with Wendy's Dots and Stripes Borders stencil and Potting Shed Archival Ink to give a light but defined border.

The sentiment was stamped onto cream cardstock with Ranger Black Archival ink and I used the same stencil to create a light pattern by using Antique Linen Distress stain.  I matched the pattern to the frame to give a more uniform appearance.

The leaf is from the Leaves Art Parts set, it has been coloured with Peeled Paint Distress Paint, over-stamped with the background stamp from Wendy's Love to Make Art set of stamps.  It was a bit bright so I dabbed some Potting Shed Archival ink here and there to grunge it up.

The flower is from the Florals Art Parts set, coloured with Fired Brick Distress Paint and over-stamped with
the same background stamp as above.  The top layer of the flower is made up from Clearly for Art attached to Frosted Film , coloured with Wendy's Red Geranium Archival ink, heated and shaped.  The beauty of the Clearly for Art is that if you are not happy you just re-heat it and shape it again - love that.  The centre of the flower has been stamped with the flower from the Art in Bloom set of stamps, then cut out and coloured with Dried Marigold Distress ink.

To finish the top of the hanging, I wound some rusted wire around a pokey tool, attached it to two Tim Holtz bull dog clips and added these to the top.

So, open up one of those 'shopping sins' packages, create something and join in the fun over at Our Creative Corner this month.  We would love to see you there!  In the meantime, please go over to have a look at what my very talented teamies have made this month, it is a real treat with lots of 'shopping sins' on display.

It just remains for me to say once again - HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours, hope 2014 is a fabulous year and that you find lots of time to create.  Big hugs,  Anne xx

  11. This is wonderful Anne - so crisp and clean but with rusty bits as well! and how brave of you to open those packets. I daren't buy any as I know they would become hoardables. Happy New Year to you x

  12. Happy New Year Anne and thank you so much for kind words recently. I suppose you know all about taking what life throws at you - thinking of your hip here of course.
I don't have many Art Parts (just some wings) but I always drool over them. Like Jennie above, I avoid buying them because they would just be stroked occasionally and then put away!
Your hanging is really quite lovely: wonderful layers, lots of techniques and that clever clip hanging has been filed away for future reference. Loving the rust of course!! Such a talented, kind lady. I need to follow your example me thinks!!

This is so gorgeous Anne, bet you're glad you opened the packet now :) I too have lots of unopened art parts, but as revealed on my blog today they will have to stay packed for a while, as I have had a big new year reorganisation & am moving all my art stuff out to the summerhouse..l have to wait for the rain to stop though! 15. Beautiful, beautiful hanging, Annie! You know how much I love my "rules to live by" and keep in ever on my sill to remind me! I'm very proud of you to use your NBUS; three packages were opened, no less!! You should get a prize for that! Your creation just shows how wonderful it is to see the packages opened and used in a work of art that will live on! Happy New Year, Happy HEALTHY New Year to you, too! With love and hugs, Darnell

  29. Love what you have done with the art parts Anne! I know how hard it is to open "the precious" packages of supplies we buy (what a bunch of hobbit golems we are). I went through the same thing with the CFA...Thinking if I use it all I won't have it anymore! Ah. What an inspiration you are time to stomp down to the studio and start ripping into some packaging :)

  35. Great for you on opening 3 NBUS pkgs, and boy, did you ever score a hit with it too. I absolutely love the stenciling you've done on the frame, then carried through to the interior piece. I was just at Rita's, and saw the lovely stenciling she had done on a card (your gift!). The bulldog hangers with the rusty curled wire sent this one into orbit, and I loved the pretty flowers too. Glad to see you are getting back to being crafty. Finally let me say a big Thank You along with a big HUG for the lovely card you sent. I was overwhelmed because I know you've not felt like making cards probably. The card was just beautiful, with your own special touches, and we both were thrilled you took time & were kind enough to think of us, with all the other stuff you had to handle at Christmas. Here's praying that 2014 will be a really good year for you, health improving, and lots of crafting. TFS & Hugs

  45. What a brilliant piece Anne and boy are you putting me to shame, lol! I have quite a large stash of Art Parts, opened and the sooty residue cleaned off and then ........... left to languish in a huge bag!!! To my additional shame I also have lots of Wendy's lovely stamps largely unused. I do love the flower taking centre stage!

  46. Hello Anne
Sorry for taking forever and a day to visit you but here I am to finally view this gorgeous piece. You captured Wendy's vibe to perfection.
It made me smile as I am terrible at keeping items for a rainy day, struggling to open, it doesn't have to be something that costs a lot of money even. In an ideal world I'd have two of everything so I could use one and keep the other!
    Wishes
    Lynne
